I was hoping that someone might have commented about that framework on the back. If you let your imagination run riot, you can see that they have used the axle hub of a CMP as the pivot point for "5th wheel" arrangement for some apparatus. The drum on the back could be a hydraulic reservoir?

I was thinking along the lines of a Peter's Bros crane, but the framework doesn't look like the "Inter W9" size crane:
