Your question and the resulting thread reminds me of talking with my son who is a philosophy professor, when we talk about philosophy I reminded him to talk at the introductory class level, for me. When he calls because he can't get his car to run or the lawn mower to start we talk with photos and diagrams. Just different points of reference, but he enjoys driving the CMPs.

My kids friends get a kick out of how my daughter will fix plow truck over the phone with me, cell phone cameras are great. They laugh at her calling her dad, until the truck starts, an she points out that I'm cheaper and quicker than the motor club.
