Alastair, I was having a brain fade. The Loyd outers are longer and lighter than the U.C. I Imagine the Loyd would ride like a brick on U.C springs. Richards post reminded me.
Again, talk to Andrew.

I was just sorting Loyd springs the other day. As I believe, the inners and outers are the same length, which is about 11 inches and are of a thinner gauge wire to other carriers. I will check length tomorrow.
The Local pattern carriers match an outer and an inner of different lengths, and also depending on what wheel station they go on. I think this goes the same for UC's.

Thanks to all.
However I should point out that according to the parts book Loyds have different springs depending on application. The number I quoted was for the TT, there are differnet numbers depending on version..... TPC All Bogies: TL332 - Outer (std UC front Bogie type) TL331 - Inner (?) TT All Bogies: TL332 - Outer (std UC front Bogie type) TL1386 - Inner (Bren/Cav Carrier front Bogie type - Ref BenH) TS&C Front Bogie: TL114 - Outer (?) TL1386 - Inner (Bren/Cav Carrier front Bogie type - Ref BenH) TS&C Rear Bogie: TL332 - Outer (std UC front bogie type) TL1386 - Inner (Bren/Cav Carrier front Bogie type - Ref BenH) If the outer TL331 is the standard front bogie UC inner spring it would make sense that the TPC used these as it has additional armour making it heavier than a TT. I presume the TS&C had a weight imbalance issue due to all the extra equipment. I don't have 100% faith in my Loyd measurements as in 20 years post war service any version of bogie spring may have been fitted, to keep them running.
