Thankyou Gentlemen for your help !
My jeep is #200286 Delivered Jan 14 1953 That makes it the 245th off the production line. It is a very clean original jeep with minor civilian mods (lights ) and I am the second civilian owner. It sat many years in a garage, outof the weather but not out of the moisture/humidity. When I went to puchase it we (vendor & seller) were surprised to find the engine stuck. When I bought it pulled it apart there was considerable rust in the valve train, seats etc and the explanation seems to be that the oil pan/sump was overfilled, much of it with gasoline which appears to have washed all the lubrication out of the top end of the engine. Too much carburation ? or leaking fuel pump or ??...All nicely overhauled now!
