I'm wondering if that's the response to your comment about some border raiding - they may just want to know where we are at all times. Anyway I am sure looking forward to all the stops - we do have some logistics to sort out. Thanks everyone.

I had assumed you were coming to reposess my dump truck. Expect resistance.

Apologies to Baldric...I think Brian broke the code. Nonetheless, we will ply them with beer as there are so many questions for them to answer. Forewarned is forearmed raiders - we will need a history of the C15TA acquisition, an update on the Chicken Ranch activities, more sharing of HUP knowledge.

PS, bring your woolies - bitter cold is forecasted.

Unfortunately Alex, that is one parade I will not be able to attend ... grandchildren & daughter plus wife have other plans for me this weekend ... mainly being their duty driver ... give the young lad a good send off and don’t forget to remind him that the Blue Beret does not actually stop incoming rounds ... it’s just an aiming mark ... in more ways than one ...

Cheers

Default Stuff for the Barn

Hi Rob,

Just a quick note to let you know that I have the stuff for the barn loaded.
I am not sure of the distance to the barn from gracies, it might be easier to unload directly at the barn if you like.

Cheers,
Greg

Hi Greg,

Great! Given that three of the four Hammond Quartet will have pick up trucks at Gracies, it would be best to cross load in the parking lot. Most of us will arrive at Gracies directly from work. We can do all of that after a few hours of chatting, drinking and oogling...

We will get you out to the barn in the future.

Default Blow Out at Gracies

Wow! I guess the minus 26oC weather did not dampen the spirit of the Ottawa ROTTERS and company. We had a good turn out on a very cold Friday night to meet, swap lies, parts, stories and to say goodbye to Clive as he ventures forth to do his part to make the world a better place.

The following folks (and if I missed anyone - send the details) turned out for this event (in no particular order):

Bob Carriere - who always takes us down some interesting literal and figurative roads,

Grant Bowker -who I hope will be making a major announcement soon on this forum,

Guy Vapeur - the designated ROTTER driver (thanks, Guy!),

(and rounding out the Hammond Quartet) Yours truly,

Mike Calnan - AKA Gunner - who brought along some interesting slide shows of Africa and of England,

Clive Law - who will be setting up a ROTTER branch in Haiti...and a big thank you for the HUP photo CD,

Alex Blair - our Gracies coordinator,

Greg Wright - official supplier to the Hammond Barn (thanks for the items Greg. They are very much appreciated.),

Don Dingwell - of the Jeep Restoration Hall of Fame,

Graeme and son (we called him Mark II - I think his name is Kyle...),

Terry Warner and son (sorry mate, I forgot the young man's name),

Eric Ratcliffe - Iltis Club representative and potential CMP owner, and

Morely V - of the Perth Regiment.

Our special guests included Brian Gough - Mr. HUP, and Barry Churcher - Mr. C15TA, who joined us from the deep south. We really enjoyed catching up on the goings on at the Chicken Ranch and were enthralled by shipping container stories. Other issues were discussed and arrangements are underway - so stay tuned!

Since I didn't have to drive, I got into the suds and blame the Guinness for the poor quality of the photos I took. I ask the other ROTTERs and guests to send their photos to me or post them on this thread.

We were all served by the lovely Jessica, who knows us quite well, having served the ROTTERs in the past.

Brian and Barry show Terry the capability of todays modern digital cameras - don't know exactly they were reviewing but they all seem entranced. Betcha it's a Gracie's girl...

Quote of the evening: "Who else would be spending a Friday night at a pub (full of great looking women) discussing the undercarriage of a rusted truck?" Yep. We're special!

Thanks to all for coming out and I hope you all join me in wishing Clive Godspeed on his upcoming adventure.

It must be stated that RHC needed about 6 attempts to take the two pictures he succeeded in taking. Jessica is much lovelier than her pictures here suggest.

Mike's stories and photos of the unwrapping of Windsor Carrier tools can only be described as collector's pron.

"Slowly, with strong workman's fingers he peeled back the crisp slippery layers of grease paper. He trembled, careful not to touch somewhere even accidently, lest the original paint be marked. The sunlight shone on the delicate pale surfaces. Gently and demurely the raised letters were revealed, the St Mary's Beaver Company. A fine shovel if ever there was one to be planted. Fixed to a firm shaft of solid unyielding ash, with a robust cleft handle - D size to be sure.

Yes! Oh! Look only the ferrule was dipped in cosmoline! "

The northern excursion is over and it was a very pleasant trip except for the extreme cold. On Friday Brian and I took our old friend Jim Fraser out to lunch in Arnprior. Jim has had some health issues but we found him to be back to his old self and on the mend. We could hear Gracie's calling so we left Arnprior for the big city and Gracie's is everything that the Rotters claim. The company was great, the beer is cold, the chicken wings are hot and the waitresses are HOTTER.You can see in Rob's photo that my mouth is hanging open as a result of one of the lovelies walking behind him. The conversation was of course trucks and facts were learned, deals done, rumors started and spread. There will be, as Rob hinted, news from one of the Rotters. Congratulations on a well done. As Terry stated Gunner's slide show of the unwrapping of the tools for the Windsor Carrier was a real treat. We got to see all the tools and spare parts unwrapped from the original crate supplied with the carrier. At 10:00 the band needed the screen removed from in front of the stage so we cleared out. The conversation was continued in the parking lot until the cold made us numb, so farewells were given and off to bed. Today we stopped at Gunner's for the tour and what a lot of nice stuff he has. Thanks to all the Rotters for a great trip. The photo is the first official meeting of the C15TA Owners Club.
Cheers,
Barry

This is one that Rob attemted to take on my camera. It would have been a snap (no pun intended) if he had gotten Gunner and Terry to pay attention and look at the Camera.

Terry, "Pron"? Is this dyslexic porn? Yes, we are all very much aware of my lack of photographic skill, thus my request for other photos. I also agree that Jessica is a very nice gal, and implore Barry to share his photos of her and her friends with us...

Keith.
My niece is in the Federal civil service as a diplomat and is stationed all over the world and she tells me that when Australians are posted to Ottawa, they get HARDSHIP pay..
We get posted to Australia and all we get is drunk..sunburnt..snake bit...spider stung..kicked by 'roos..attacked by sharks and all manner of dangerous critters that live in the sea and inundated by Cane Toads...
But this morning it has warmed up here to -25C with the windchill..
Maybe a stint to OZ wouldn't be a bad thing for a few of our winter months..
But hardship pay..??Jeez..what a bunch of jam-tarts..

Default speeling

Some filters and firewalls cough and splutter at certain spellings. The initials NWS are sometimes used in subject lines to indicate Not Work Safe. I didn't want to get MLU added to someone's ISP's naughty lists.

Whoever goes, please take lots of pictures. Unfortunately, my plans have changed and I won't be there - other opportunities are looming and the frau and kid vetoed the long distance adventure. Hopefully I'll find my way south in the future.

Good luck with the event!
