First gracies call of the new year

Attention all ROTTERS, MV lovers, hobbyists, Iltis ilk, and truck nuts! We will be convening at the usual Gracies haunt on Oglivie Road in Ottawa during the week of 12 January 2009. The date will be broadcast after the usual dickering about as soon as practical (you try herding ROTTERS - you have a better chance of herding squirrels on caffeine...).

The focus of our attention will be the send off of our more erudite members on his quest to make the world a better place. Clive Law will be taking a "Haitian Vacation" in the New Year, and we want to send him off with fond memories of why he left Ottawa.

Stay tuned. ROTTERS! Commence bickering over the date. I like Friday.

Friday Jan 16 works for me. In order to prepare myself I will be learning how to order beer in Creole - Deu Biyair

RHClarke 30-12-08 04:57

Tsk, tsk...

Exactly!

Geoff, Yep. Sums it up nicely.

Clive, It will be interesting to see you "cut loose" after your two beer...

My (possibly selfish) preference

I think I can make any of 12-17 Jan work, prefer to avoid 12th.

Guy, Some of us may take you up on your offer. Bring your camera - it comes in handy for blackmail purposes. It will be a pleasure to intro you to some of our more august members of the ROTTERS. Hopefully we can entice Pilon, Greg, Gunner and a few others to join us. We know they lurk in this forum...

It would seem at first blush that the 16th is the day. Mark it on your calendars - I would put it on the MLU calendar but I can't seem to get it to work...

Moo! Moo! Consider this Jeeper herded to Gracies on Fri 16th. I'll be interested in hearing Clive's tales of predeployment training. Small party tasks. Negotiation scenarios. Student syndicate discussions. Transient Quarters in Kingston (shudder). And all the resultant tales, 'There I was facing a angry mob armed with my Field Message Pad and a copy of the UN Charter on the Rights of the Downtrodden.'

Maybe that couple who sat at the table next to ours at the last Colloqium will return and break out in spontanious dances again ... It was a sight I hardly expected at a beer and wings type roadhouse.

That shit's for you Army types. RCMP pre-deployment training includes the correct spelling for the word Tayzer, Tahzar, Taisur.... (whatever), ensuring that the yellow stripe is on the pant leg and not on the shirt back and that any performances of "Sweet Marie" are sung in a manly harmony. This 9-day training will take place at an undisclosed hotel on the Aylmer road. Finding it - and arriving on time - goes a long way towards passing the pre-deployment training.

Images of Monty Python's Lumberjack Song come to mind.

Terry, Does one Jeep constitute a herd, or have you glommed on to another green delight? In any case you may want to change your horn...(Moo! Moo???)

maple_leaf_eh 03-01-09 04:24

I found a fellow M38A1 owner in Ottawa, Mark Payne. I invited him to Gracies, but gosh am I responsible for him now? What if he commits some social faux pas like uses the wrong fork, eats his salad after the main course, tells a joke that falls flat or laughs too loudly at Bob's stories? Will I be shunned or not invited back? What have I done?

On the bright side, he knows Don out in the Carp-neighbourhood, and is helping subsidize Don's mortgage to get some mechanical work done.

Terry,

All that you mention are serious breaches of ROTTER protocol, and I am horrified at the prospect of being witness to such a potential social disaster. However; all can be mitigated by your guest should he:

Arrive wearing a baseball hat and a work coat (plaid gets an additional 10 pts);
Have dirt under his fingernails;
Is adept at using expletives in context;
Drinks beer;
Tells MV restoration yarns;
Out BSes the many BSers present;
Knows about MLU; and
Loves his country.

Since he owns a jeep, I am sure he will fit right in with the rest of our "mangy" lot.

RHClarke 05-01-09 03:55

It is on!

Friday 16 January 2009 at Grace O'Malley's on Olgilvie Road in Ottawa.

Alex, we want to get our usual corner but most of us won't show until 5 PM. Since you are there at opening time anyway, how about reserving some tables.

Agenda:
Drink beer;
Welcome new members;
BS;
Wish Clive good luck in Haiti;
Get caught up on the local restoration scene;
Drink beer (but don't drive); and
Have some good clean fun at the waiting staff's expense...

Everyone bring a camera!

Gracies Call- 16 Jan: S&P Contingent

Wishing all a clap free new year!

I'm back from my self imposed 35 day exile from MLU (withdrawal ain't so bad when your underwater!).

I'll be there with slide show, Graeme is coming with at least one son who is beer legal now, I think! My Bristolian chum Paul (highly skilled auto electrician) and his son Darren (talented body man) will also join us. So the S&P contingent will be at least five. :thup2:

Gunnair,

Welcome back! Try to lure Greg along as well. Since you will have your 'puter with you, I'll show some of the sexy photos Clive managed to find of my Mistress or her sisters (they all look the same)...

Greg 09-01-09 00:57

Hi Rob,

I will be there on the 16th. I hope everyone has had a great holiday season.

Cheers,
Greg

Greg, Wonderful. If you wish to fill your trunk with rags and other items, the Hammond Quartet will gratefully receive them. As well, what is your list price for mod ends (one front one rear)? If you have a few centers remaining, I am in the market.

Rob

Barry Churcher 09-01-09 02:24

The Gough and Churcher travelling road show will have occassion to be in the Eastern Ontario region on Jan. 16th, doing a little networking and some border raiding. We thought it appropriate that we attend Clive's send off. The only hitch is that according to that Blair guy there are certain qualifications that must be met in order to join this Rotter fraternity. I have already promised to buy Alex beer (how many???) but we are in desperate need of the rest of the requirements as the date is fast approaching and we may need to study. :teach: I am getting a little anxious but Brian seems to think that since Alex qualified for admission the standards must be low. A reply from the convener at his earliest would be appreciated.
The newbie or wannabe or whatever is appropriate
Barry :cheers:

Barry..
I will be booking the seating so that Gunner can do his dog and pony slide show..and I'll be sure to reserve Gough's chair close to the ventilation system...I don't know if I can hack those vile lobster and beer farts he lets...I been away from the East coast for too long...
It will be great to have our Southern Brothers in for a little Eastern hospitality..
But I can't insure security If Clive shows up in his kilt...
In an Irish pub,some drunken Irishman will want to dance with him.....Jeez..It could be me.......!!
Oh ..the time we'll have..and the lies we'll tell...
Aye lads.....It'll be a cooker..!!

Barry, You answered your own question with the "Alex" observation. Sort of a play on the old saw " I would never join a club that would have me". In any case, I can vouch for you - you being a C15TA owner and all. Bring a disk with some photos of your wonderful vehicle, and we will waive the "buy Alex beer" requirement.

Brian will of course be given a place of honour, he being a HUP owner and the acknowledged centre of excellence for all things HUP (I fully expect Bob Carriere to pipe up about HUPs not being a real CMP, but he is entitled to his opinions being one of the Charter Members of the ROTTERs).

If things work out alright, I should be back from Kingston in time to make the 5PM start. We are really looking forward to your visit.

PS - if you are available Saturday, a tour of the Hammond Barn can be arranged...

The trick is to raise your standards in women once you have seen the lovelies at Gracie's and the inevitale lowering of your standards on men as you will be in the company of ROTTERS - all in all a fair trade-off.

Barry's and Brian's Excellent Ottawa Adventure

B&B:

Here's hoping you will make time for a visit to the Eastern Ontario C15TA, also home of the most wondrous Windsor Carrier and cool new CCKW- not a CMP but rather cute in its own way! :D

The S&P awaits your presence!

:cheers:Mike:remember :support

Barry Churcher 10-01-09 01:26

I had a cutomer today just back from our nation's capital and I asked her about the weather. Her reply was "Ottawa is Hell". Am I to assume this means it is hotter than Hell and the snow has melted? If so I will be the guy with the belly in the Hawiian shirt and sandals. :D Looking forward to the trip and both offers for Saturday sound great. We tried to make the Hammond Barn once with Dirk but it didn't work out and the only time I was at S&P
Gunner wasn't there. As I have a US 1 1/2 ton Chevy it will be a treat to see the new CCKW and of course the TA speaks for itself. :thup2:
Regards
Barry

Close One!

From CTV News Ottawa: Three popular Ottawa bars are facing temporary liquor licence suspensions for over-serving customers in what the province says has become a "pattern of conduct after NHL hockey games."

Fortunately, our Grace O'Malley's remains pure and unsullied. It will be serving the Guinness next Friday night to slake the thirst of the assembled ROTTERS!

So, who the hell was Grace O'Malley? Good question that we never really pondered when the beer was flowing. However, here is what I found out about our girl on the interweb:

Gráinne Ní Mháille (c. 1530 – c. 1603), also known as Granuaile or Gráinne Mhaol, known in English as Grace O'Malley, is an important figure in Irish folklore, but was in fact a larger-than-life figure from 16th century Irish history. O'Malley is sometimes known as "The Sea Queen Of Connaught".

MLU makes you smarter, and Guinness makes you a better dancer...

Visit of TO contingent to S&P

Barry and Brian:

I hope Sat AM works best for you as I have been directed to attend a command performance of my 4 year old nephew singing Happy Birthday to himself on Sat PM.

Looking forward to seeing you both at the Sea Queen of Connaught's Own Tavern!

:cheers:Mike:remember :support

Brian Gough 13-01-09 21:49

Nice people, those Rotters

Wow Barry, this sounds like a great trip. I didn't know we were going to be inside socializing :drunk: at Gracie's - I thought we would just be vending in the parking lot.

And aren't they a great bunch to extend all the kind invitations to visit - Gracie's, Hammond Barn, S & P Museum. I'm wondering if that's the response to your comment about some border raiding :devil: - they may just want to know where we are at all times. Anyway I am sure looking forward to all the stops - we do have some logistics to sort out. Thanks everyone.

Brian :cheers:
