There is usually another data plate under the passenger side window on the bulkhead, held on with 6 rivets although mine has gone walkabouts at some point.
I cant think of anywhere else it appears apart from the plates, do you still have the engine/number? i believe clive may have a list somewhere that might relate engine to chassis, although if it has been changed it isnt going to help. Did your old engine have a service record roll in the screw top tube thats bolted to the thermostat housing, that may provide a lead if it is still present.

Waltz, this is what i think it all means:

The shield with the eye in it denotes 4th Guards Infantry Brigade and probably was based at its HQ, Hubbelrath, British Army On the Rhine (BAOR)
Not too sure where that would of been painted, possibly on the nose and the rear.

The circular mark on the door would appear to denote 3rd sub unit, or "C" Troop.

The squares on the back, possibly 17= Field sqn Royal Engineers against a blue background, the 169= Corps Engr Regt.

The quadrant in a circle marking on the bottom left of the door looks like a 4th Division marking.

I dont know what state the paint was in on the pig when you got it, but it looks as if a previous owner has recorded what was found on it, you have two totally different users, The Brigade of Guards, and the Royal Engineers.

The link below is for BAOR locations, pointing towards the Guards HQ, its a great website with loads of info, it takes a bit of working around to find what you are after, but is very useful.

Default Pigs on Cyprus

On the Canadian Guards Regimental Association site they have four images showing Pigs being used by Canadians on Cyprus. It seems that were using them as convoy escorts.

Funny you should say that, i was comparing my Mk1 Pig with a C15TA that had been converted to a timber tractor, armoured cab with a crane on the rear.
When you see pictures of them together when new they are very similar, and the prototype Pig had a stepped rear wing box, which looks identical to the C15's.

Default Pig vs GS truck

Can anyone explain why the Pig (weighing in at 2 ton + over the original Humber truck) had a slightly higher road speed, with almost the same fuel consumption??? Or is this just another miracle of Pommy engineering. Even allowing for increased tyre size and ratio changes this seems unusual, especially considering that the Piggy had a rated climb angle of 45dg, compared to 33dg??
Wonder what would happen if this set up was used on the original GS truck....
Figures taken from Pat Wares "In National Service"
Also found out that there really was a "Flying Pig" version....live and learn.
Do the Dinky versions come with thir own little oil leaks? How cute would that be?
