1942 CMP 15cwt Markings
Gentlemen,
I'm semi-restoring my 1942 CMP recently purchased last summer and I want to start working on putting proper markings on this tuck. To honor my Grandfather who served overseas with the 7th Medium Artillery Regiment I'd like to put artillery markings on this truck. I've researched a little bit but everyone here is so good with the details. If anyone has a decent jpeg/bmp of the maple leaf I can scan it and use my vinyl cutter to make a stencil. Also, what about the serial number/markings on the doors, roof, front and back. Your help is greatly appreciated. Drew |

7th Med Arty
Bruce,
Right on! Except he didn't have any good conduct stripes. He did however have a oak leaf! I'll eventually like to get myself a full uniform. Thanks for the photo. Drew |

CMP Vehicle Markings
After some quick research came across canadiansoldiers.com and think I found enough info to get the correct markings for my CMP. Turned the BMP image into a vector image and was able to cut out some stencils on the vinyl cutter. Just need to verify the serial number on the truck. Do many owners have markings on their roof?
7th Medium Arty Regiment = the 1st Canadian Div. marking? (gold on red) 177= unit (red and blue, white numbers) 4= bridge classification (white number on yellow background 6" circle) CZ (then the serial number) on the doors (white 3.5" high) Does this sound correct? Any verification would be appreciated. Drew |

The 7th Medium would have worn the 1st Canadian Army flash (gold leaf on red/black/red). In NW Europe the bridge class was usually 5 for a 15cwt, black number on yellow and either painted on the plated over right headlamp socket or just in from that on the space between the socket and the rad. They seldom had it as a separate plate screwed to the bumper as earlier versions did. Additional markings for the artillery included red/blue squares indicating the vehicle's position within the Regiment and, again in NW Europe, you would see white recognition stars on the doors (sometimes crooked) and one on the cab roof, usually in a white circle and painted in such a way that when the roof hatch was open the inside of the hatch was also painted so the star was visible from above with the hatch open or closed.

CMP Markings
Thanks Bruce,
I guess I was a bit off on the markings. I'll make those corrections. That's what I love about this forum, great support. Cheers, Drew |

CZ door markings
Bruce,
You seem to know what's what with CMP markings. I'm in the process of making vinyl letters on my vinyl cutter to do the templates for the door CZ identification. I get the CZ then the year but what goes next. Something to do with what number in which the truck was received or how many? I have the year and month of manufacture and the chassis ser. number and the engine serial number. Perhaps you can set me straight before I go ahead and make these tomorrow. Thanks, Drew |

Hanno,
Same website I checked on earlier. Good stuff there. I used a JPEG to trace for my 1st Cdn Army stencil. Thanks, Drew |
