			Hi Fellows.

I wanted to know how long the tow rope should be for my Jeep as well how large the loops should be? I have been told that the length of the rope including the loops at each end is 3 times the length of the vehicle...? Sound correct? That's a lot of rope? almost 45 feet. And that the loops are approx 1 foot long? I have the hemp rope in a spool and it is almost 1 inch dia rope so It'll work and look alright as well. I figure I actually have used a rope for towing recently so I wanted to have the correct style so I can use it if need be. That being said I'll do my own braiding etc jus wanted to know the dimensions and how it was stored for the Canadian military. I know the US had the wrap around the front bumper...Was ours was figure eight from frame rail to frame rail? Thanks! Casey

			Hello Casey

I have not seen or heard of an approved tow rope for Canadian M38A1's. I have only seen them on MB/GPW's of WW2 and a few M38's. Therefore you can do whatever you wish. I have a chain on my front bumper, which i can hook onto the two tow rings. Using the tow rings is generally better than attaching a tow rope to the bumper. The rings are attached to the front frame as well as the bumper. Eric

I agree with Eric's analysis....never saw a tow rope in Cdn service. We did have the tow cables, which had a pear shaped link along with a snap slip hook on each end of about a 12 foot steel cable. These were kind of standard issue (although not on the checklists) for a wide berth of vehicles in the CF. They can often be seen slung onto the tops of the fenders of the ferrets.

I have 2 Canadian Forces Issue tow ropes that are 60 feet long..they used to have the paper tags on them..but they have come off and are lost..I also have a 200 foot tow rope..a bit thicker than the 2 60 foot ropes.
