Default rear window plates

Hello. Need to fabricate these plates. Does anyone have the thickness of the plate used?

And what kind of profile does the gasket have that lies around the edges? Is it rubber?

Svenn

Default Channel looks something like this

Hi Svenn

Window channel looks something like this same stuff that was used cars 40s-60s for the side windows to slide up and down in.

Measure your channel width and check with automotive glass shop they should be able to set you up with 5 or 6 foot long stock. It comes in different widths so be sure to measure your channel. Here is an on line source for it but I'm not sure of the size. Main page http://www.steelerubber.com/ try this search year 1945 Chevrolet & GMC Truck and Van part name is Side Window Run Channel.

I'll measure the thickness of the plates today

Cheers Phil

Things may have changed in recent years, but the window channel in that particular size was not available. The nearest size made it almost impossible to move the metal plates as it was oversize for the opening.

However, with auto restoration sites constantly expanding their products, I hope I am wrong, and someone has started making this size again.

Default If you are making the plates

Hi Svenn

As Rob points out the channel that has been available makes for a very tight fit squeezing the plates together so tight it is hard to move them. But if you are making new plates maybe you can just make them thinner.

So maybe the best way is get the edge channel first and adjust the plate thickness to work.

I have three different versions of the plates.

Ones on my 1941 C60L are plates about .125" with edge strips top and bottom about 3/8 wide .093 thick pinch welded on the plates.

Ones on my 1942 C60S 16 gauge and edge strips to make up the total ..2187"

Third version I have unknown vehicle 16 gauge with edge folded back in a U shape to make up the .2187

On the photos you should see the basic measurement, need more measurements let me know.

I presume both sides are simular?

Default Both plates are 16"

Hi Svenn

Both of the plates are 16" in length including about 1" of overlap in the full closed position.

Scroll down a little further on http://canadianmilitarypattern.com/M...0Up%20Link.htm to the Pattern 13 Rear Cab Sliding Window heading for several photos.

But as has been mentioned before there are several different styles for how they are made. So if someone could post some of the other styles that would be useful.

Cheers Phil

Default Phil

It has been a few years since my C15A days, but I am sure the flexible channel material in my 1944 Chev rear window was a double channel unit, not two separate single channels mounted side by side. SPAE-NAUR carried the correct item back in the 80's, but as you say, times change.

Hi Svenn, I was able to borrow a slide so I cut out a template from it to make mine.
I could not find any suitable track so instead of the steel strips on the edges I fitted some moulded rubber to the actual slides.
This let me put in some holes to drain any water to the outside.
It works well but certainly is not standard.
Regards, Terry
