Default Beltring 2009

My spies in the higher echelons of the War & Peace orgainsation tell me that, as at this moment, W&P 2009 at Beltring is on.

This being the case, and with 2009 being not only the 65th anniversary of D-Day, Liberations in France, Belguim and the Netherlands, as well as 'Market-Garden, but also the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of WW2, perhaps we should take the opportunity to also commemorate these events by getting together at Beltring the largest gathering of Canadian manufactured MVs to date.

With rocketing fuel prices, and some uncertainty of Beltring continuing beyond 2009, we may not have the opportunity again for a while.

If there is enough interest in the idea, then I can look at organising arena displays, convoy run, special Canadian Vehicle display area, etc.

Thoughts, views, ideas, suggestions, comments welcome.

James

James,

Great idea! The Maple Leaf Up Parade in 2001 seems only a little while ago, but time flies when you´re having fun. . .

Arena display: like in 2001, a get together in the arena is easy to arrange. We just filed the event with the organisers, and then went round the camp site to invite all CMPs to join in the parade.

Special Canadian Vehicle display area: it seems most Canadian vehicle collectors camp with other groups on site. But, if we could get enough CMPs together, some of us might be persuaded to camp with their true next of kin
Not sure if all of the vehicle collectors are into it, but I´m sure with the current interest in reenactment, putting together a period "Camp Canada" with vehicles, kit, and personnel should very well be possible.

Let's keep working on this idea!

Hanno

Was a great event for me, the most CMPs I have ever seen in one place.

Cheers Phil

Hanno,

Many thanks for interest and your suggestions. I will arrange with the organisers to put a Canadian Vehicle section into the arena events programme.

I agree most people like to camp with their vehicles, and their friends, but there might be enough CMP types who camp together in one location, which could then perhaps become Camp Canada, with other CMP owners parking their vehicles there each nmorning, and returning to their camping location in the evening. It would also ensure we had as many vehicles as possible in one place ready for the arena event.

Any thoughts from others welcome.

James

Plus we can take tours keeping an eye on our vehicles, kit, etc, and be present to talk to the public to increase awareness, show the vehicles etc. Sounds like it could work! But you have to be early to claim an area for such a display.

I have booked space with War & Peace organisers for 'Camp Canada', and a couple of slots on the arena events for Canadian vehicles. All we need now is to get the vehicles together.

Default Beltring 2009

James,
Just re-read your thread on Beltring 2009, I reckon the idea of a Canadian camp is just brilliant. Therefore, let's get the ball rolling, I intend to bring my 1942 C30 LAAT to Beltring this year, so count me in !. I'm sure I can get some of the Oxford CMP group to support me. Come on guys, let's go for it

Default Beltring 2009

Keith,

Many thanks for your response, and enthusiasm for the Camp Canada.

It would be good to start to get some idea of how many people/vehicles would be interested in displaying their vehcles in there so that i can make sure we have enough space.

If there are others out there interested, throw yout hats (or CMPs) in the ring and let me know.
Cheers
James

Do we have dates? I can't bring a vehicle but I wouldn't mind being one of the unwashed masses.

Default Beltring 2009

Sorry guys but there will not be a Camp Canada this year. However there will be opportunities to display our Canadian vehicles in the arena over the 5 days of the show, with specific arena events:
Thursday:
- British and Commonwealth vehicles
- Normandy Landings

Sunday:
- Allied and Axis vehicles
- Canada goes to War

Hope to see you there.
Cheers

Built in Canada as a chassis/cowl, not its fault it was bodied in Aus!

Just out of curiosity, how many here will be at Beltring this year, and staying where if there is no 'Camp Canada'?

(PS: why no Camp Canada if you had booked the space, James?)

Greatings from Beltring. We arrived on Sunday. More and more vehicles arriving each day. Not too many CMPs here so far. Maybe 10 in the whole camp site as of this morning. We are in the American camp although there are more eastern bloc vehicles there than American at present. Look me up on the corner where the D7 Catterpillar Dozer is parked. There are 2 CMP's there as well. (A cab 11 F15A and a Cab 12 Chev C30S)
Regards Rick

Rick,

Good to hear you made it to Beltring after travelling all over mainland Europe.

The trucks you mentioned most likely belong to the Ashby clan, please introduce yourself to them and send them my regards.

Of course we expect a full photo report of your trip once you get back!

Cheers,
Hanno
