Anyone recognise this?
Looking at the vent I'm thinking Holden built, but the windscreen is not familiar.

Bedford
Keith
It looks like a 1935 to 1938 ish Bedford cab ... from the W series .Yes Holden made those cabs .From the History of Holden book, thay made those cabs from 1935 to 38 .... At the same time they also made the 3 ribbed round roof cab for other model Bedfords and Chevs too. So the square one as in your pic is Bedford .. they sold a few diesel engined Bedfords pre war too. Diesel Bedfords
If there were any Holden diesel Bedfords, I would imagine that they could have used Hercules engines. These were fitted to Chevrolet, GMC and Oldsmobile export trucks. This was easily done as all shared the same basic chassis frame and Olds were a direct GMC clone, and in the case of the COE trucks, all were based on the same components. However, what other diesels were imported at the time? Did Petter, Dorman and other British makes come over?
I remembered that in 1939 someone re-engined a 1937 Buick with a diesel engine in the UK. I gather that it was not unknown. Last edited by David_Hayward (RIP); 19-05-08 at 11:54. |

What is the prize, Keith ?
From the Austin K3 manual, showing side vent, bulkhead details inc. the slot in the footwell for throttle linkage and pedal, just below fusebox on the drawing. Either the roof has been removed or it was supplied as shown and a coachbuilt cab fitted, as in a removal van, etc.
