Default Sudebaker 6x6 question

Oh, No, It's HIM again . . . .

On my modelling table are two of the ICM Studebaker 6x6 trucks. Nice model by the way, just fiddly enough to be a challenge and engineered cleverly enough to keep the wary worker on his toes. Recommended to serious truck (or is it lorry?) modelers.

I am looking for color photos of the Hercules JXD engine so I can attempt a reasonably accurate paint scheme. I intend to position two confused Russian squaddies over and around the open bonnet. (I have the figures; they are perfect.) I have done the obligatory Google search and came up nearly dry. I am looking for WWII paint schemes. I suspect that the medium or lime green that our forces used to use would be about right but any and all details would be appreciated. I have some photos of White scout car and half-track engines, and the big diesel that served in the Sherman III, but no JXD's.

I did find Hanno's old thread about the bloke selling the Studebaker but the bonnet was closed.

In advance, thanks a heap.

Bob

Default Addendum to post

OK, I found two reference publications, one each by Rossagraph and Wings and Wheels Publications. Squadron does not show stock of either one so they are going on my next order to Jadar in Warsaw.

Still, any help here is warmly appreciated.

Thanks Bob

Bob
If you are talking about US forces the colour would have been Olive Drab (OD) and not medium or lime green.

Sorry I cannot help with the engine photos as the only photo I have shows the motor is rusty.

G'day Cliff.
All the Hercules engines I've seen in both the Stude's and the White Scoutcars are a mid to dark grey. A bit like the old admiralty grey. I have a nos water pump I can photograph for you which might give you a good idea of the colour. Regards Rick.

Ah so they are grey the same as I know all the Dodge motors were at the time as well. That is good to know thanks for the info.

Default Thanks the probverbial heap, gentlemen

I know this was the place to ask my question. I also knew that in addition to the answer I would learn some other useful stuff as well, like the fact that the White scout car also used the JXD engine. When I build my third Studebaker truck I may contrive to leave the engine out for one of my scout car models.

That gray is a surprise. I have photos of tank engines in which the engine block and transmission housing (one would think that, as an ex-ordnance officer, I'd be better with the technical bits) were a green somewhere between zinc chromate and what I loosely call industrial green, a kind of light/medium green. I have some photos of half-track engines whose colors I cannot not now recall. Back to the books.

The photo also gives me a few details I will need to add.

Thanks again. This time I filed the photo.

Now, to get myself an MLU calendar . . . .

Bob

Bob I think the Engine colour was a carry on from the pre war civilian market days as I know that the Dodge motors in all their line of cars and trucks were painted grey in the 1930's. Mind you when they were rebuilt by the military they probably got resprayed green or OD or what ever the vehicle colour became.
