Default Once we were done with the snow...

After snow clearing, we retired to the inside of the barn and were glad we weren't outside in the worst of the downpour. The transmission of my C15 was put together, closed up and lubricated. It all went well, nothing too hard if you have the manuals available and can source the parts needed. 3 of the 5 bearings looked like they had been water damaged (the other 2 seem to have been replaced fairly recently), the same for the shift rails so rails and a PTO cover to replace the retrofit PTO that had been on my transmission were sourced from another transmission that had a cracked housing and significant water damage. The shift forks were sandblasted, rails polished and the cover reassembled. The reverse gear, bushings and shaft were fine, so reinstalled after a solvent bath, New bearings were installed for the countershaft and between the input and output of the mainshaft. The cleaned parts were replaced in the case, then everything was drizzled with gear oil and spun to spread the oil around, followed by installation of the refurbished top cover and shift lever assembly. It is odd that some parts can look as good as the day they left the factory and others be severely pitted. Water damage isn't always at what you would expect to be the low points of the transmission, puzzling.
