I can hear people saying we must save these or as much of them as we can but many have tried over the years. The park police are adamant that they can't be dragged or have vehicles driven to them and access to them has now been totally banned.

Excellent research material, especially with the location. I had all these recorded from an old database by Ian Hall but with sparse detail. Now I can fill in some holes. Carrier 6 I believe is #1990 as this was recorded by Ian. There is no record of #1965.

Funny, too, how the Nat Pk people have reacted. We have a large Munitions depot near here that has been disposing of time-expired ordnance for the best part of 60 years. The State Forest behind it has also been extensively used for Mil Ex's for probably just as long. It is still quite possible to find all kind or spent ordnance all through the place, but there are no restrictions throughout the SF at all. It's off limits to the Bush Firefighters during a fire, though, as the firefront sweeps through and it sounds like a Chinese New Year. A couple of years ago, a dump of 25pdr shells and 20mm AA were found that had been buried in a trench, but a nearby creek had eroded it's banks and moved, exposing them. Don't think I'd like to be near that in a fire!

Enough to warm the heart of any Gunner, and fill the drawers of us "normal" people!

BTW, don't bitch about the way these have been 'disposed'... beats hell out of dumping them overboard in deep water, which was one of our favourite pastimes, along with burial after the dozers had crushed what they could. The murricuns were especially good at the latter with regards brand new aircraft sitting parked on Pacific islands - I've seen pictures.

Having spoken with one of the then Reserve soldiers (Harvey from the Artillery Society for those in Perth) who took the carriers from Perth to the park, it seems all the engines/gearboxes were removed along with the tracks and they were flat towed the 60 or so kilometers behind Diamond T wreckers.

Am on a local VBFB up here at gero, we watched what we thought was a power transformer or something start arcing up about 30m from our 3.4 heavey truck behind some smoke, We didnt think it sounded right and we realised there were no powerlines in that direction, the next noise we herd sounded like 100 of those american mini chain guns going off and we saw the ground slowley rise up. ever seen a eight ton fire truck do a donut and spin its wheeles! Gero had 2 armd divisions during 42 to 44, civil population about 4500. dont want to know what else is there!

Yes it has - back in March this year.

It is easy to forget that a Carrier was the starting point for this vehicle - the workmanship and technical expertise, are second to none.

I agree with Jack. The workmanship is very good on this vehicle and alot of time and effort has gone into 'getting it right' given the vehicle they started with. With the crew dressed in period uniforms, it wasn't too difficult to imagine you were back in 1939.
