Default pith helmet

hi all

today i found an old pith helmet which looks military, but i'm not sure. at the moment i can't post a pic of it, but here is the description. it's colour is similar to light stone, or to some of the ww11 issue respirator bags. the lining is gone, but the inside of the helmet is similar to a jade green. it has a leather chin strap about 3/8" wide. i couldn't find any markings on it anywhere. if anyone has a pic of a cdn issue pith helmet perhaps i could compare it. i'm thinking it's military because the previous owner was a veteran. thanks

mike

Hi Mike,

Here is a selection of different pith helmets. Does yours look like any of these? I may be interested if it is for sale and in good condition.

Clive

Boys, boys... back On Topic

The helmet that the old pither wore in the immediate post-Fenian era was known as the Hawley helmet and was taken into wear in the early days of the Second Great Unpleasantness. It continued to be worn by cadets well into the 1980s.

Default Pith helmet availability

Firstly, I pithed myself laffing at Jiff's carbon dating of Alex!

www.wwmeinc.com sells the models 1, 4 (in both white and khaki) and 5 for a most reasonable price of $39.95 USD ea and delivers (via Ogdensburg in my case) in two days. Our local cadet corps recently bought 10 in white for wear with patrol dress.

The supplier also stocks a "North Vietnam" cork helmet which is pea green and looks very similar to 3 but rounder at $19.95... it comes with an NVA hatbadge so may still be current issue to the Vietnamese Peoples' Army.

Cheers! Mike

Antics? Whatever do you mean by "antics"? On MLU? I'm sorry, you must be mistaken, that's simply not allowed here...

The number 3 pic is exactly what I was issued with as an Army Cadet at Ipperwash in 1956 (1956, not 1856!)

Matter of fact, I just picked one up at a local flea market for $10.00 and just wore it to a grad pde at Meaford today.
