Hi Geoff, Rohan, Ron, Wayne etc,

One of the interesting aspects to this carrier is the fact that when recovered, it had the letters MX marked on the outside of the driver's side armour.

The painting was done with very large lettering as shown in the photo - presumably to be very identifiable. I re-drew them in black but they were originally in white.

The only thing I could dredge up was a reference to the Middlesex Regt (mainly from Korea when they were operating with 3RAR) - their abbreviated title was MX.

However I doubted there could be any link between the MX Regt and an Australian carrier and when I was talking to Wayne H today, he mentioned the letters could stand for Modified eXperimental. Meaning that at the stage when these letters were painted on, the vehicle carried some form of experimental equipment.

Other than that, I don't know what the significance of this lettering really was - a military mystery ??
