Interesting query! Civvy GMC and Chevrolet trucks had chrome grilles until say in the case of US trucks, late 1942 Model ones i.e. so-called black-out models had painted grilles. I am not sure whether military 1941 Models had painted grilles...possibly painted over chrome? The export civvy-spec 1941 Models had chrome from what I have seen from photos, but possibly overpainted when they received overall drab for say Mobiel Canteen service.
