Rob,

The Bofors Bible (1941 Handbook) says:
C.216 (steel) 24 rounds in six chargers
C.219 (steel) 24 rounds in rolled paper container

so there seems to be something wrong with your packing system.

C.216 boxes used to have a partition in the middle, with the ends offset in diagonal fashion, so that 3 loaded chargers (what we now call clips) could be laid flat on the bottom of the box, on top of each other. the other 3 chargers would be placed with the projectiles facing the other side, also on top of each other, in the other compartment.

C.219 boxes would have 2 endplates riveted to the sides of the box, inside where the handles are, with spacers behind them to help them clear the irregularities of the side stamping. The rounds would be individually packed in cardboard tubes, and when the chargers are emptied by firing, used to re-fill them.

Most boxes are now found with the partition or endplates removed, to increase the inside space, and the rivet holes will be the only remaining evidence of their former existence!
