Cool, first I have ever heard of the allies having IR gear in WWII that wasn't captured German stuff. Please tell us more when you trip over it.
With the slit night driving lights I would think that something of lighter colour on markers or trees , such as these pieces , would greatly enhance night driving using just visible light and still be pretty innocuous from the air. As in a nighttime snow storm when visibility is 50 gophers long and you use the road edge plowed snow to navigate at higher than smart speeds.
