If you have a "script" rear WILLYS tub then there is a very good chance that you do have an early Jeep. I'm not BIG on my early jeep details, but some other things you can look for are:

- a "slat" grille, rather than the later stamped style

- I believe earlier jeeps also had a lack of glove box, as well as no provision for a gas can on the back...not 100% sure on exact changover dates

- also look at your gauges, I believe there are a few differences with early ones. "Gas" instead of "Fuel" and I believe the ammeter only reads -30/+30..again, I'm not an early guy...but that will help.

Definatly check out the "Gee" forum I was telling you about, more theorists and "experts" than you could shake a tire iron at, and a good source of Jeep info.

If your jeep is mostly complete, then you should have a decent early style jeep on your hands...I believe they dropped the script from the tubs around March-April of '42, but can't be sure of the date without my refs here at work.

Hope that helps,

Tim
