David,
The one you have shown is a Dennis Max, I have just looked at an original photo of one, from the other side and the fuel tank profile is identical, also the radiator surround on the 4x4 one is the civilian pattern, and again found a pic of a 40/45 cwt civvy model on test prewar, certainly Dennis. I would say it was early wartime from the headlights and their masking.
