Sussex Downs ??
I recall my father mentioning that ,as part of the RCASC-1st. Div,,he was on guard duty under the trees with camoflage nets covering their ammo dump.Is there such a place in Sussex as the Downs??? During the nightly Battle of Britain air raids,he stated that they were more frightened of the RAF fighters than the German bombers. After dropping their loads, the bombers would head to low altitudes to escape back across the channel. The problem,as he mentioned, was these low bombers would be fired at by the fighters.By the way,I was in Eastbourne and Lewes many years ago.Beautiful area, especially Beachy Head with it's white cliffs.
