Geoff, considering the fact that you are still alive, relatively, due in most part to a certain wee things cooking, would make you a prime contestant for the TV show Fear Factor .
I would also suppose that being an experienced military man has prepared you for a worst case scenario, complete with training on how to survive by eating all kind of nasties to provide nourishment when neccessary. I would think not much different than frying pan fixins.  BTW Karmen, we only tease those that we cherish
