Default Midsummer night

Folks today it is midsummer... Tomorrow is a bit darker then today, and on this end of the world, it goes slowly towards winter again...
No midnightsun were I live ( a bit far south), and it is cloudy..

But this night is to be selebrated with good food, and a nice time with the family and friends, a small bonfire and perhaps a beer or two...

And all you down under, don't even mention it, we know it is going toward summertime in your end...

Rolf

Default Mention

Hi Rolf

OK, I won't mention it but here in Melbourne today we're just past the Winter solstice and it's around +7C in the morning, brilliant sunshine and not a cloud to be seen in the deep blue sky... the hot air balloons have floated their way past the city - what a nice sight... and we're on our way to warmer weather, although the coldest part of winter is yet to come, where it might, on a really cold night drop to around zero.

Oh.. did I mention our Summer is coming?

Enjoy it while it lasts, Richard. I know about your summers...

By the way, temps in the 30s? That must have caused a national state of emergency, surely?

Which Melbourne are you talking about? Sounds too warm!
The Winter Solstice brought our first snowfall of the year and Winter has only just begun! More cold weather predicted. (Maybe I should move to warm Canada?)

Keith,

For sure, they are talking of hosepipe bans and water shortages.

Latest weather update, Glastonbury Festival in the West of England has been washed out by thunder storms and torrential rain today. A mild thunder storm reached us this evening but has now gone and air is clearer.

Tony, is that picture of snow, in Lithgow? Looks like it from the trees in the background.

Richard

Well, it's officially a heat wave now: at least 25 degrees Celcius during five days, of which three have temps above 30 degrees.
Since 1901 we have had 35 official heat waves. The longest one was in 1975 with eighteen days with temps above 25 degrees, plus six tropical days (30+ degrees). Yes, 30+ degrees is regarded as tropical here
