Default Roof Hatch

Question for you Lee

When you dismantled the Roof Hatch. Did it have any rubber or timber between the the metal frame and the roof itself?

Any documentation and photos you can provide would be extremely useful including any pictures of the rubber surround between roof lid and the frame.

Jacques, thanks for the information on the cab/body mount bolts. luckly for me the set from the f60 all came apart intact. but i didn't label them, so that will be sorted out at a later date.

i do have a bunch of pictures from the hatch, Ganmain. all the bolts holding the hatch on came lose no problem. the rubber was intact and came apart with out ripping. the hatch had a gasket on both sides of the roof. orange and kinda like a canvas with rubber impregnated in to it. the top gasket was pressed pretty flat but the bottom gasket was still it's original thickness, 1/8"or 3mm. each gasket was made from 4 pieces. there was a steel backer for the bottom gasket. the hatch door gasket was also in good shape. that was made from a thick black rubber. it too was made from 4 pieces but they were glued together.

the orange gaskets were fitted pretty lose. maybe they shrank a bit. you can see the extra holes for the hinges.

Very handy to see all that Lee, and very well documented with really good photo's.

Jury's still out for me wether timber was used originally between the hatch surround and the roof but I am leaning towards that theory.

The couple we pulled to bits, the bolts were long and very rotten in the middle indicating some organic material added to their corrosion. The middle material was timber sandwiched between two rubber gaskets. It certainly appeared that they had never been disturbed from factory but that is only gut feeling.

Still you can only go on what's in front of you. There are threads with pictures of Ford hatches but they get blurry when enlarged making it near impossible to see the original packing used.

i can't believe it's been a year since i posted my progress. new computer and just super busy. but i have been working on the cmp right thru. with the cab off i have taken the engine out. i won't be using this block. so it will go into storage for now. it does have a rebuild plate dated 1947. the engine from the f60 will be used. it's at the machine shop and should be done in a few months. i use the winch to roll the frame back up over the 4" lip on my concrete pad. saves a lot of effort. now the engine and transmission are ready to be split.

so the transmission is in tough shape inside. the gear cluster is pretty much spare parts. so i will be using the transmission from the f60 also. it's in fantastic shape. i do a separate post on the transmissions later. so i have continued to strip down the frame. took the 3 small tool boxes off the under side of the bed. there in rough shape. probably fab them new, when i do the large tool box behind the cab too. i took the 41 to a local show, didn't unhook the PAK yet. can't be all work. lol
