Is there a parallel to parts costing 10x more when listed as fitting a Corvette instead of any old Chevrolet when the Jupiter pump is for a Rolls-Royce rather than something with less prestige?

I got the one in the photo in post 1 for £20 with about 3x that for postage. In total it came to less than $100cdn. The list of items I need for the 25pdr is getting reasonably small, so I'll pay what I have to pay.

Well whatever happened to them, they are missed. There was some great reference material in them.

The parallel is also in the militaria field when a standard pocket knife goes way up in asking value because it is a paratrooper rigging knife, or a pair of binoculars becomes a sniper's binocular.

The trick on many of these things is to be somewhat patient. For instance, when it comes to optics for tanks and artillery, there are way more of the optics surviving than there are the applicable guns. Some patience pays off.
