Not a bad result from the twisted bracket picture in post 201. It still needed some minor adjustments once bolted on. I got the one side bolted in but the other was out by about 1/8”. I used the 10lbs sledge to nudge it over and get the 3rd hole lined up. I bolted it then nudged it again to get the last hole lined up.
I also pulled off most of the brackets from the rear end that hold the tools. The shovel handle bracket will need a new vertical piece as the original is totally gone. Interestingly the shovel handle bracket, pick axe head bracket and the shovel/pry bar bracket are all the same as Universal Carrier parts. The one even has the CTL number cast into it. I guess when it was a good design why redesign it

The shovel/pry bar bracket needed some work. Part of it had been badly bent and also torn off at some point. Once straightened out I cut a patch for torn off corner and get it all welded up.

Finished off the two fender stowage bins. I needed to add some lock hasps. Found the exact size needed in a pile of stuff my father in law had given me. Canadian made too. Lastly the pickaxe head bracket was sandblasted. Same part as found on the Universal Carriers.

More parts getting fabricated. Thankfully a few of the tool holding brackets are the same as Universal Carrier parts.

Finished up the sand channel mounts. The threaded portion was made from turning down 1” diameter rod to 7/8”. Then the inside was bored out and threaded to 5/8” NC. The base was 1/4” plate 3” wide. Thankfully 3” square tube with 1/4” wall thickness is available. It saved some time cutting these out with a Zip disk compared to trying to get consistent bends 1/4” plate. These will eventually get welded to the hull. The originals were all cut off.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything about this restoration simply because everything has stood still since mid May. Don’t worry nothing negative has occurred, in fact it’s due to some great news I’ll hopefully post about in the near future that has kept me extremely busy.
Anyway onto an Otter post. I love being able to match up original pictures to where they were taken. These two pictures were recently shared in a FB group showing an Otter LRC driving along a road. The only caption information was that they were taken in Hastings, England in 1942. Thanks to google street view and about 45min of time I found the exact spot. I was able to match up the roof lines after checking street by street. The pictures were taken from the front door of 315 Harold Road. Amazingly even the black pipe railing visible in the first wartime picture is still present today. Even the neighbors house still has the same stone caps on their brick garden wall. Across the street the one building has received a covering of stucco and new windows. But otherwise the buildings are unchanged.
