Not shell cases, Mike: Tas Rail at Launceston finished formed projectile blanks made in Victoria and manufactured base plates for HE projectiles.
I have to correct my error: Henry Jones IXL manufactured primers for shell cases, not fuzes. Mike |

Hi Mike
I think the newspaper article was referring to the factory that was to be established at Derwent Park ? "The Premier said the works would include a large num- ber of mechanical presses, rolling mills and a foundry, which would process copper and zinc produced in Tasmania ; in fact, all the raw materials used would be of Tasmanian origin." From wiki : Ammunition Factory Derwent Park (MD) – Derwent Park, Tasmania. Manufactured cartridge cases and 2-inch mortar shells.

Hi Mike,
Yes, there was a large ammunition component factory established at Derwent Park. Not sure of the entire range of cases and projectiles produced. I was focused (fixated?) on the facility established at Launceston. Mike |
