I am a scale modeller who went to 1:1 scale, mostly
I can not speak to the laser printer issue To help decals lay flat the old trick was to spray a gloss clear coat over the model and then use the decals and some folks used some type of softening liquid. Never used it myself. The gloss coat was sufficient for my purposes. On AFV and softskins I then sprayed a flat coat over top of the decals and restored the vehicle to the look I wanted. There are some old school forums out there and some new fangled Facebook groups. Paul Fredenburg at TrackJam models is a good resource and will likely answer an email directly You asked for expert help, I am a rank amateur Good luck
