Sorry I'm not understanding what you mean by "underside of the brass near the knurled wheel" etc.

Do you mean the underside of the sight, or something else?

Because there are no pins in/on the sight save for a small one holding the knurled wheel to the threaded shaft, and which is some distance from the point where I believe things may not have been fully assembled.

I'm unable to successfully load pics. Will get my son to figure it out again today or tomorrow.
