Extinguisher, Fire, 2 gallon, foam filled (marine or transportation) bracket or
Extinguisher, Fire, 2 gallon, soda-acid type (marine or transportation) bracket.

Battery Staff vehicles had one foam-filled, so one bracket.
Fire Tenders had one of each type, ie two - one bracket each side.

The fire tender also had a 20-lb CO2 extinguisher.

Default Fire extinguisher bracket

Hi Mike,

Thanks for that confirmation. Looks like the truck was the real deal i.e. Battery Staff. Pity it wasn't in better condition but the chassis is beyond repair. The bracket probably stayed there as long as it did since post war it was a Bush Fire Brigade truck.

Cheers,

I have seen that bracket mounted to a 1943 C60L, stores un-binned truck.
so they were fitted to a number of different variants.

Default 30 cwt and 3 ton Aust CMPs with extinguisher brackets

Gents, we were talking in the first instance about its application on the 15-cwt truck. But it is interesting to widen the scope of the thread and look across the entire Aust CMP fleet.

30 cwt ambulance C30: fitted with one Extinguisher, fire, 2 gal, foam.

3 ton garage and 3 ton stores do not list a 2 gallon extinguisher as part of the VOL.

Maybe the stores and garage trucks were used by the local bush fire brigade after their service life? Maybe some Army unit thought it to be a good idea? I've no idea why those would have the extinguisher mounts when those vehicle types were not officially fitted with a 2 gallon extinguisher, but there are plenty of possibilities for them being fitted either during or after service.

Have others come across the extinguisher mounts on 3 ton or 30 cwt CMPs?

Mike

Hi David,

Do any of them have the original semi-circular retainer band on them?

If so, I would be most grateful to see a good photo and/or dimensions of it.

I can probably eventually make a reasonable approximation of one from the AWM photo but a close up photo of it would be even better.

Cheers,

Hi Jacques

Yes I'm more than happy to help, the extinguisher bracket on my C60L garage is original and with its original retaining strap.

I can email you a photo if you like, I have previously tried to post photos on the forum but I'm unable to.

Its from a couple of meters away but will give you an idea, I don't have a close up on hand but can get photos and measurements next time I'm at the truck.

Regards David
