The phrase silk purse/sows ear comes to mind on the first one. For the ferret, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I would not choose the wheels but I think the VW looks great. The workmanship seems first class and it is certainly not overdone with chopping and chrome.

Not for most MLU people but I bet a year's wages if that was in a mall car park beside a full military restoration it would be 10:1 lookers at the yellow peril.

The complete phrase is something like trying to makes silk purse out of a sows ear. I in no way said the iltis was a sailk purse either before or after this transformation. It would take more than a set of fancy rims to fix the reoccurring problems that an iltis will have.
