It is a Q.F. 2-Pdr Mk VIII Quadruple Naval Gun.

Ed,

Correct, I was just about to start typing a reply.

Brad,

I conducted a google image search and first came up with this image:

http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNBR...er_m8_diag.jpg

It then lead me to this site:

http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNBR_2pounder_m8.php

The date of 1957 on the sights don't seem to fit with the description a weapon designed in the 1920s but potentially some were still in service (or the mount was adapted for a different weapon).

Regards,
Colin

Correction,

The caption for the picture linked in my first post is:

"Gunsight on 2-pdr Octuple mount. IWM Photograph TR 330."

It may be that we have solved this then.... The maker as stated above was around in ww1, which adds up if the sights were made around that time..possibly the 1920s.. Then they could have been for that gun.

It may be that the 1957 date was stamped on after.. ( in 1957) maybe after a factory repaint and inspection...

Im just guessing......
