The method Richard describes works well and is the correct method as described in the period manuals. I guarantee you'll have no creeping handbrake, no need for tail chasing if you do it properly.
It'll take two of you a couple of hours (including tea drinking) the first time.

Please be careful until you're done it. Skidding to the right on a UK road could be very nasty.
