Not unlike my first M38A1, it's a 1970 CDN3 but had a '67 rear axle in it...
I guess the motor pool Veh Techs used what was available.

yes,they had to use spare parts upon what they had to make the fleet run till 1985-1987

Swapping the rear axle between years was slightly more complicated than ordering an axle. The U bolts and shock mounting plates also had to be matched to the correct axle since the tube diameters were different. There was a CFTO which advised of the parts needed when the proper axle was not available.
We even still had the odd 50s axle assembly, identifiable by the earlier brake system, floating around on vehicles towards the end. All this made for very confusing times for the poor guy trying to order parts. |
