I really don't want nor need another project, but I also don't want to see these old trucks get scrapped. I know the owner doesn't want them. They are in his way, and he's sick of having them around. From speaking with him, I think if I offer a couple of hundred or so, I could get the one without engine. Maybe a little more for the engined chassis could get me that one as well. Before I even consider thinking about any offer of prices, I want to know what the hell I'm looking at. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks Guys!

Red one is a 1938 Ford with mechanical brakes I think. The other a Ford/Marmon Herrington gun tractor chassis most likely.

Are either of these sufficiently sought after to warrant making offer/s for them?
Sadly, the MH chassis has a rather damaged rear cross member. That would have to be repaired. I guess they are a good source of parts if restoring one already.

Good day Tony,
My theory is they don't make them anymore, somebody will eventually want them, and you can always trade/sell them for stuff you do want. The gentleman offered them to you so he must have an idea what he wants for them, also that sometimes makes for better haggling unless he has checked prices on ebay. The Marmon is definitely worth trying to save, but hundreds of dollars not thousands. Cheers Ken

The Marmon would be my choice as well Tony. It's the same as the 1/35 scale model I am currently making.

G'day Ken & Cliff,
Good point Ken. From what the seller has said, there is a real risk of seeing these parts lost to scrap, and that would be a shame. I have just about gotten everything usable off my parts truck. Maybe I could finally dispose of that chassis and rescue one of these ones. My Wifes not going to like it, but I think it's a fair thing! One goes, one comes. Can't take em both though. Mind you, there's a chance if I show interest, owner may suddenly feel he has rusty 'gold', if you know what I mean! Cliff, is that the truck you started do some time ago, when I was there last? I've been thinking about your comment elsewhere that modelling in scale pales compared to full size resto work. I think the modelling work requires some genuine skill/talent you can get away without in 1:1. Precision, for example. My bits dont usually require pruning or shaping to go together. Remember our trip to Maryborough? How excited were those museum guys, to be getting all that work of yours! Without wanting to sound like wizzin in your pocket, I could rebuild a full size MH chassis, but I don't have the patience, skills, or craftsmanship for what you do.

If I had space and time I'd go for the MH chassis myself as I have come to love these roadster cab Fords ![]()
