"Wheels with holes"

These wheels are made of a dished steel plate with holes, rather than the usual cast manufacturing method.

I think they are most often seen on Wolseley-built Loyd Carriers, sometimes also as replacement wheels on Universals.

Pictures posted here for reference only; who has more pictures and or background info?

Hanno, I believe they are late war production. An alternative method of manufacture.

Hanno, Can't find it right now, but I seem to remember we already have a thread with some pictures of these wheels on the forum(?).


They are often misidentified as being German Maultier wheels.

So the Rubber was poured just up the road from me in Melksham or Bradford on Avon unless the Avon Rubber Company also had other plants. They also made many thousands of Respirator's and still do.

Does anyone have the TL part number from these road wheels? I have a late war parts book which lists all the British alternatives but I don't know which one is the holed type. The maultier ones have fewer holes.

Hello. If anyone is interested, I have one of these wheels available. Perfect rubber, most likely NOS. I no longer have any carriers, so I do not need it . Regards, Andy

I don't think these are carrier wheels, but rather generic heavy industrial trailer wheels - from which carrier wheels originated, obviously.
