The original Ford MB-F1 is poor, both for instructions using the fixture and especially without it...
Flathead distributors are tenacious items and having your timing set correctly with a fixture is truly only the way to do it properly.
Many guys also look at other reasons why they think their flathead runs poorly.
9 times out of 10 it is an inproperly set up distributor and/or defective ignition coil.
