Swords into plough shears, it has always been so but that makes it no less maddening.
I understand it's often the case these that days the scrappy has no room to manoeuvre having been locked into a contract for the complete destruction of the equipment and no on sale to a third party except for melting down. I have friends that have been in the ammunition business for years who used to buy empty, reject or overrun casings and reject or overrun projectiles from a scrap dealer by the ton. The guvmint has now become so paranoid they would rather bury it in a secure location. Probably alongside our F111s. David

Don't start me on the F111s. Those cockpits could have been easily detached whole, and donatd to museums all round the country (minus anything secret, of course). They were another tragedy which shouldn't have happened!
There's gonna be nothing surviving of modern times, as it is. Think about it. Our furniture, electronics, appliances, vehicles, digital photo prints, etc,.... Nothing is built to last beyond a few years. It will all be gone by the time we are. Now THATS a travesty in the making! While we work feverishly, trying to restore and retain our past, society and business is doing it's damnedest to eradicate our future historical items from current era. Bah, progress!?!?
