Wow, they look really good for originals.
Most new spring packs come painted chassis black and this led me to believe they were new or NOS. Saved a few dollars not having to replace them. Were the original bushings good as well or did you use new?

Hi Peter,
Bit late to this, but this may assist re your earlier comment: "Is there anyone out there that can identify the unit and perhaps some history of the Lynx with the British army. I'd welcome any information. Peter" Someone mentioned signals Unit sign. The Unit sign background colours for signals units were white over blue, horizontally divided. The background colours for armoured units post-ww2 were red and yellow (red top left) diagonally divided: I think that is what we are looking at, with the unit ID number not having been applied. So although you can identify the Formation, the unit within the formation remains unknown. Mike |

Folks,
Mounted the axles and springs to the frame. Feels quite good considering that they've been apart for over forty years. Had to have a couple of spring u bolts made up, but other than that it's all original components. Satisfying to meet my goal for this year. Guys,
While the Lynx restoration is actually progressing quite well, I'm having a bit of difficulty tracking down the following items. The rubber axle bumpers, Ford part number 5783 and cages for 3/8" square nuts that are welded onto the insides of the fuel tank sponsons. If anyone knows where I can source these parts, please drop me a line. Thanks, Peter |

For the cage nuts, are you hunting for caged nuts to fit a 3/8 thread or nuts 3/8 across flats (for smaller threads)?
Macs Auto sells some http://www.macsautoparts.com/early_v...+nut&x=17&y=11 Mcmaster- Carr sell a style that could be modified and welded on but not identical to those used on CMPs. http://www.mcmaster.com/#cage-nuts/=v8xp5v Also, I don't know if they will sell to you in Canda or if you will need the help of an American friend. Fastenal also sell cage nuts similar to the McMaster ones designed to clip into a panel http://www.fastenal.com/ again, not the same as CMP with flat ears for welding. Fastenal uses the term weld nuts to describe the style closer to that used on CMP http://www.fastenal.com/web/products...VendingMachine= (McMaster also come closer if searched for weld nuts) And there's always ebay - searching "weld cage nuts" got results for threads from 1/4 to 1/2 inch in flat ear style similar used on CMP except that the cage is in 2 pieces rather than 1. These 2 part cages must be current production. |
