Default The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp

Bruce takes full score!

A wonderful flick about a chap raised in the military traditions of fair play and following the rules.

The 'hero' goes from a VC decorated subbie in the Boer war to a Maj Gen in WW 2 who is captured on a home guard exercise by "enemy" troops played by a new generation of young bloods willing to think outside the box and take on a dishonourable foe like the Nazi's.

The underlying message being that the allies, and particulary the older Col Blimps had to put away thier scruples and dig into the box of dirty tricks if they were going to beat Hitler.

The quote comes from the General's startled cry when he is captured at his spa several hours before the exercise was to start..., "... but War starts at midnight!"

Cheers, Mike
