Richard
Whilst at W&P I picked up some very good repro crooks that Nigel Ward has had made. They're here and available if you want any. Send Nigel a message if you're interested, I'm only babysitting them on his behalf. If you need pictures there's one mounted on the side of the Scout (see thread last page) Ben |

If you google " shepherd's crook bren carrier" and click on google images, some good photos will show up.
I recently made mine out of 1" square stock with appropriate bends to fit into the brackets on the front plate of my carrier. It even works for adjusting the track, although I prefer using the cam tool. It took about 1/2 hour to make, and the steel ran me $20 with a foot or two left over. |

Ben and Rob,
Thanks for your comments. I think I will try Rob's suggestion first. Rob, What are the bend radii? What length of 1" square stock did you use? I can get the mounting brackets. Cheers - Richard

I don't have exact measurements, but I guess I can go outside and get them. You will want to buy extra length...I bought a 6 foot piece. The thing is, since you are working with 1" square, you will not necessarily get the bend exactly where you want it, so expect to have about a half to a foot left over on each end. I heated with oxy acetylene, and once you have the area of the first bend red hot and bending, you start working your way down, keeping the radius even. When done, you cut off the excess form each end.
I may have some extras of the brackets available if you have trouble finding them. |

Rob,
I'm not working on the Crook today so when you are out to your carrier next, no rush needed on the measurements! Thanks for the overall dimensions. Regards, Richard

I had some crooks burned at a profilers not long ago, I think I still have the cad file somewhere if you need it.
