White M3A1 AOP Scout Car
David,
Would you happen to have a photograph of the front fender rear brace/mount on these scout cars? These are the braces that go under the guard at the rear and bolt to the side armour. They are welded to the edges of the guard on the sides but just have the two bolts through that side armour. I need to replace or repair both of them on my front guards and I am a little unsure of their exact original shape. They are a channel type steel shape but what is left on my guards is twisted or missing. They look like they should have a twist in the channel so as to fit the angled side armour but am just not sure. Thanks.

Re: White Scout Car
Hi David and Robert
Sorry about the holdup in coming back to you. Have been flat out with work. Thanks to you both for the photos. That has given me a real good idea to work from to make up some replacement braces. I have a pretty good idea now of how they are shaped and I will make something up, temporarily fit the guard and test the brace in place before finalising it.

M3A1 AOP Scout Car upper door armour
Hi all,
I have the upper armour cut out for each door now as you can see in the picture. Thanks to all for the measurements to date. I have the rear pistol port slide mounts here and have just managed to pick up the passenger side front guide with the down-lock bolt. I just need to find this guide for the driver’s side now. If someone gets a few spare minutes can they please give me the dimensions of the pistol port slides? Dave - I was going back over the posts in this thread and wanted to be sure of the location of the slide guides. Can I just confirm that this is what you had for the locations of the mounting holes for these guides: A line drawn through the centres of the aft block guide mounting holes measures as being 1-1/8" aft of the rear edge of the opening with the hole centres 1-11/16" and 6-11/16" up the line from the lower edge. Forward guide mounting hole centre line is 1-3/4" forward of forward edge of the opening with hole centres 4-3/8" and 10-1/2" up the line from the lower edge.

M3A1 AOP armour
Hi Robert,
Thanks for the reply and the dimensions. Very interesting about the front slide guides. I picked up the passenger side one for $45US and have the option on another passenger side one. I just wasn't sure how easy it would be to cut and reshape it and weld it all back together again so as to fit the drivers side. Was it straightforward?

Hi Robert
Thanks for that. It looks good. The first latch should be here in a couple of weeks and I think I might grab a second one of the same side and have a crack at what you've done. The price of these ones is $45USD which I think is not bad. I've seen these latches for as high as $75USD.

Pistol port block mounting guide rail holes.
Try this Darryl. I've measured as well as I can and it should be easy to follow.
A line drawn through the two upper hole centres is 2-5/16" above and parallel to the upper edge of the port cut-out. A line drawn through the centres of the two forward holes is 1-3/4" forward of and parallel to the forward edge of the port cut-out. The forward hole centres are 6" apart. A line drawn through the centres of the two rear holes is 1-1/8" aft of and parallel to the aft edge of the port cut-out. The rear hole centres are 5" apart. Don't hesitate to ask if in doubt about any of this. Dave

M3A1 AOP Scout Car upper door armour
Hi all,
Thanks for the replies. Lynn - yes, I saw that Scout car armour on EBay. I have all the big stuff I need but I was eyeing up the tool box lid, rather than having to build it from scratch. The postage was going to be a bit steep though at $80. I will give it some more thought. Dave - thanks for the dimensions. Can I please confirm the hole spacing for the front armour down latch? In your last post you had 6" centres for this but in your previous post, the measurement worked out to be 6 1/4" (Forward guide mounting hole centre line is 1-3/4" forward of forward edge of the opening with hole centres 4-3/8" and 10-1/2" up the line from the lower edge). I know it is not a huge difference. This latch hasn't yet arrived to me but I was getting all the holes drilled this weekend if I can. Thanks.

The difference between the two measurements (error) is actually 1/8" Darryl, 10-1/2" minus 4-3/8" = 6-1/8" and I do believe the more recent dimension is correct @ 6". There is a little bit of guess work in locating the hole centres with the large countersink but I'm sure I'm right at the second attempt as I used a slightly better measuring arrangement.
Apologies for any confusion. Dave

Hi Dave
Awesome. Thanks for that. My maths is clearly not that good! I'll run with 6". Many thanks again.
