Default Disgusted ex serviceman

Hi All

I report this as an ex Australian Serviceman with disgust. This is a Channel 7 news bulletin about the Mayor of Newcastle wanting to charge the local Nashos who want to hold a Service at a War Memorial in a local Park to commemorate National Servicemen’s Day next week, which the Council has never done before.............What Next? - Diggers - Charged For ANZAC Day

http://au.news.yahoo.com/video/watch...for-anzac-day/

Please follow this incredible outrage. The City Fathers of Newcastle New South Wales must be turning in their graves. The relatives and friends of deceased servicemen and women must be incandescent with disgust at such a proposal.
What Next?

Lest We Forget

Cheers

Tony

Default oh dear

"Seemed like a good idea at the time..."
Mayhaps the negative publicity will see some sort of positive resolution for the Nashos and a kick in the nuts for the Ex Mayor.

Hi Wayne

I wished the interviewer had asked the mayor if he had ever served in any of the services. I bet he has not, for if he did I am sure he would understand how we all feel. Maybe he could forgo one of the council lunches no doubt paid for by the ratepayers to save some money. From his body language I am sure he was wishing he was somewhere else. Penny pinching b**tard. And him a large successful builder.

Cheers

Tony

Tony, I agree with you. Two years ago the local East Gippsland Shire wanted to charge the Paynesville RSL $2,500.00 to close the road for the Anzac Day march.

We told them where to put it and arranged for the Bairnsdale Police to close the road for us. The Police have now done it for the past 2 years.

I am now the Paynesville RSL Sub-Branch President and it will be interesting in a couple of months to see if they have changed their ideas.

Regards Rick.

Default Councils!!

Isn't that the amount the Corowa Council want to close the road for the Corowa street parade. And being met by the Corowa RSL? Seems councils are the same all over.

From what Rick says, this is not the first 'squeeze' Tony.
Seems our forebears did things far better. They were able to build court houses , police stations and town halls and also staff them on a much smaller population base. Councillors were unpaid and budgets balanced.
The Newcastle Mayor says they are 29 million dollars in debt if I heard correctly. How the hell does that happen? Not overnight that's for sure. Don't see how that could sneak up and bite them on the bum.

David it is the way we do things now. Councils all over the western world are well in debt. My home town has plenty of it and it's growing. I wonder how our kids will pay for our excesses. We vote in council members who have no idea about money (people like me) and we wonder why it gets worse.
Many U.S. councils are in deep trouble. They employ the police and fire departments. I have heard about them being laid off in some areas.
Have I blown this out or what?

Default How true

Hi Guys

Your comments are all valid and true. I think we have placed a wedge in a very, very big crack which will open a big can of worms.

Cheers

Default Civil Disobedience

Hold the parade without Council permission and challenge the Mayor to order the police to arrest all the Diggers (serving and retired) and their families!!

When the great city of Ottawa took over our municipalty in a big land and tax grab some years ago I was told I would have to pay a large fee to conduct the annual Remembrance Day parade (I was organising on behalf of the Legion).

I told them I would see them on the front pages of the national news and got a call back in short order saying that fees for veterans' parades would be waived!

At least our politicians realised they were in an indefensible position unlike the idiot Mayor downunda'.

Remember 'poly' is the Greek word for "many" and ticks are blood sucking parasites!!

Cheers and Ubique! Mike
