Hi Ben,
The black covered book, Chilwell No. 63/53 was a mistake in the ref. number. I have a hardback copy of this book dated reprint Feb 1944 and the cover is printed 63/63 and on the inside front page the blue stamped Chilwell no. 63/53 with 53 crossed out and 63 above it. My book is a Master Copy that originated from the publications dept of Inspectorate of Fighting Vehicles and has various hand written notes in it, for a subsequent reprint. It also has handwritten on inside, WO Code No. 3407, which was a War Office publication reference number. regards, Richard

I have this manual:
FWC-01 Preliminary Illustrated Parts List, Carrier-Windsor Mk1*, 1944-5, SE-209-Issued Jan.1945. It is 98 pages and good coverage of al mechanical items. Nothing on the lighting, instrumentation, body parts (except engine covers) or tools. .... Brian |

Thanks for the posts. Nice to see the LP ones, thanks Euan. Any chance of a cover picture please Brian?
There must be some others out there? FUC 02 anyone? There's a massive gap in the early Chilwell books, if the earliest British parts list is 1942 we've lost about four years + even if we discount the extinct MG carrier the Brens and Scouts were being made in the late thirties. I've seen a copy of a 1939 instruction book but that's as it. Can we assume that the 63 prefix in the Chilwell codes is for carriers only and why the jump between the second numbers? I've asked Bovington for what they have but the answer was almost nothing and no master index for Chilwell books. |
