Derk has recently made more room in his yard, and could use this trailer. I already have around 9 or 10 trailers littering the yard....Derk only has one. If it goes cheap at the auction, buy it and drop it off in his driveway.

It's rolling with the 2 good tires/rims I put onto it... The auction is in St Labre Sandilands forest...this Sat. going out Thur. again for one more look around, but all Tony and myself saw on the first look was nothing special. I would like to stick with the 3RD. Div. markings on my FAT/17PDR..Was there one paticular battery 1,2,or 3 which was designated for the big 17? Also did the 3RD. Anti-Tank with the 3RD. Div. even have the 17 going into D-Day? Artillery tac. markings on big back door and also in the back? Just want to get it right the first time. Cheers Rob

Rob, an anti-tank Regiment had four Batteries. In1943- early 1944 each battery of the A/T Regt in an Infantry Division contained two 6pdr troops and a 17pdr troop, each with four guns. Third division was unique in that it was an assault unit for D-Day and one of the 6pdr troops was replaced by a troop of 3in M-10s.

SP A/T guns were normally found in the A/T Regt. of Armoured Divisions and in the Corps A/T Regiments, and not in the Infantry Divisions.

In Jan. 1945 the A/T regiments in the infantry Divisions (2nd and 3rd) were reorganized to have two batteries of towed 17pdrs and two batteries of 17pdr Archers. 1st Div in Italy kept the old establishment until it move to NWE in March 1945.

My next question? If my choice of #1 troops in the first battery is not A/B/C/D... but E/F/G/H... do I mark my choice H with #1 troop in the tac sign? "H1"...or just the "H"... It is my understanding that all Fat/Limbers/Guns in the first battery were all 1st troop men... So why not just the "H"... Nit Picking here a little bit. Cheers Rob

Rob there seems to be a misunderstanding here. An Anti-tank regiment is made up of four batteries. Each battery has three troops and each troop has three guns. The troops in each battery are as followers;
Senior Battery – A, B & C troops
2nd Bty – D, E, & F troops
3dr Bty – G, H & I troops
Junior Bty - J, K, & L troops

The tac signs shown on the guns consist of a letter and a number. The letter refers to the Troop while the number refers to the gun and not the battery. In the photo you posted the I-2 indicates that it is the No. 2 gun of I Troop

We are into the gun restoration trying to free up the traverse/elevating gears after being buried for so long. They are a little gummed up to say the least. I thought I would post some pics out of the manual of some of the parts needed. The gun is quit incomplete so this part search is going to take a couple of decades I figure.
Parts needed first time around: Elevating handle and worm gear part#25,41,49,50,etc...
Seat and attachments...All accessories...and of course ordnance breech and muzzle brake.

Sandblasted, primed, and painted, I hope we got the colour right. Bronze Green? Tony looking pretty happy to get this out of the way before the snow arrives. Hi Guys, I own a blank firing 17 pounder and am looking for a source of warner electric brake pad discs for the gun brakes. I tow the gun behind a Morris Portee and the gun really pushes me along on the downhill. The rest of the system is working but the pads are worn out. They are similar to most US Warner trailer brake parts?

I am not overly familiar with the 17 pdr brake system, but here is a shot of the 105 howitzer Warner electric brake system. Drum size is 14"x2". The 105 got rid of the electric brake portion of the setup but retained the handbrakes.

Is the 105 similar to the 17pdr? If so I managed to find a set of brake bands on ebay a few weeks ago.

For some strange reason the little town of Terrebonne Qc has two 17pdrs sitting beside its miniscule cenotaph down by the river/former mill now library/ island park

I can guarantee no-one in the city knows what they are, nor how they got there..probably decades ago.... I think I might have taken photos of them for an old Convoy mag.

The local legion has a 25pdr, but somehow pieces have disappeared from it over the years.. When I first saw it, it was pretty complete...including the wood seat, and traversin platform/ring gone along with just about everything else.. probably thrown out.. not many "collectors" around this area, and I would guess (pure speculation) that they scrapped the heavy ring to get cash,, along with the traversing poles and any other removable metal... as, like all Legions, they're struggling financially..esp as this -was- a mostly "English" legion..and even a decade ago, there were hardly any members...(there's another French Legion in town.) The area has hardly any anglos left.. two anglo schools closed down long ago.

The elevation wheel and attached gear were missing as well as the lower gear cover. Everything is elevating/traversing with relative ease. Also see recent P-60 box purchase for FAT step. Cheers Rob

holds 4 AP shots for the 25 pdr. and the box fits into cradles on the back step/entrance on the FAT . See pics of this in the P-60 thread here on MLU. Cheers Rob

Obviously a scaling issue on my behalf... didnt think it looked deep enough for 4 x 25pdr rounds... used to have some P60 boxes with all the metal inserts - think they are all sold now.

Derk would know better, but I recall seeing a lot of the 25 pounder boxes, many in excellent condition, at Ribtor's in Calgary. Not sure if they were the P60, but many still had the dividers, along with packing slips etc.

P-60 ammo boxes carried four cardboard tubes holding AP Rounds , the P-59 contained a metal shell clamp for holding four HE,Smoke ,Burst Rounds etc.

Good info, then I am sure the ones I saw at Ribtor's were the P59 then, as they had metal cradles for the rounds.
