Default White M3A1 AOP Scout Car

David,

Would you happen to have a photograph of the front fender rear brace/mount on these scout cars? These are the braces that go under the guard at the rear and bolt to the side armour. They are welded to the edges of the guard on the sides but just have the two bolts through that side armour.

I need to replace or repair both of them on my front guards and I am a little unsure of their exact original shape. They are a channel type steel shape but what is left on my guards is twisted or missing. They look like they should have a twist in the channel so as to fit the angled side armour but am just not sure.

Thanks.

Hi David and Robert

Sorry about the holdup in coming back to you. Have been flat out with work.

Thanks to you both for the photos. That has given me a real good idea to work from to make up some replacement braces. I have a pretty good idea now of how they are shaped and I will make something up, temporarily fit the guard and test the brace in place before finalising it.

Default M3A1 AOP Scout Car upper door armour

Hi all,

I have the upper armour cut out for each door now as you can see in the picture. Thanks to all for the measurements to date.

I have the rear pistol port slide mounts here and have just managed to pick up the passenger side front guide with the down-lock bolt. I just need to find this guide for the driver’s side now.

If someone gets a few spare minutes can they please give me the dimensions of the pistol port slides?

Dave - I was going back over the posts in this thread and wanted to be sure of the location of the slide guides. Can I just confirm that this is what you had for the locations of the mounting holes for these guides:

A line drawn through the centres of the aft block guide mounting holes measures as being 1-1/8" aft of the rear edge of the opening with the hole centres 1-11/16" and 6-11/16" up the line from the lower edge.
Forward guide mounting hole centre line is 1-3/4" forward of forward edge of the opening with hole centres 4-3/8" and 10-1/2" up the line from the lower edge.

Just got back from Corowa last night Darryl. Will check the dimensions in the next day or so.

Default M3A1 AOP armour

Hi Robert,

Thanks for the reply and the dimensions.

Very interesting about the front slide guides. I picked up the passenger side one for $45US and have the option on another passenger side one. I just wasn't sure how easy it would be to cut and reshape it and weld it all back together again so as to fit the drivers side. Was it straightforward?

Hi Robert

Thanks for that. It looks good. The first latch should be here in a couple of weeks and I think I might grab a second one of the same side and have a crack at what you've done. The price of these ones is $45USD which I think is not bad. I've seen these latches for as high as $75USD.
