My first posting was Base Maintenance in Winnipeg. The older civilians related that they had just modified a batch of the 1953 M38A1s to make them into recoiless jeeps when the 1970 M38A1sCdn3s showed up already in that configuration. They didn't even get to issue some of them out when the PCC message came. Evidence of that conversion can still be found in the local military scrapyard, where the rear cutouts could be found, along with the windshield frames with the channel for the tarp removed, along with all the brackets.

Prior to the conversion, it would have been M38s with the recoiless rifle setups. I suspect the initial plan was that the M38s would be phased out, and Canada would maintain a fleet of A1s and A1Cdn2s.
