Default Educate me, please

Ladies & Gents, I found my way here back when the forum was on Network 54, however long ago that was, and was/am a Universal Carrier student and buff.

Now CMPs (I guess they rub off on you) are interesting to me. Please, could someone explain what the different "Cab" numbers refer to? I suspect that different styles of driver/co-driver compartments are the subject, but I'm not positive.

I'm a Yank (Don't hold it against me), and was U.S. Army 1961-1964 (Active), mostly in Stuttgart, Germany. That puts me at the bottom of the learning curve about CMPs.

Thank you in advance.

Roger in Vegas

the numbers refer to the different cabs.

#11 cab being the earlest. They had problems with maintaining them as it was hard to get to the engine to service them. Main clue to identifying a #11 is a one piece grill and a flat cover on top of the bonnet (hood). The radiator cap was situated externally at the top of the grill. these also had wooden windscreen frames.

#12 cab looked similar to the cab 11 but with a 2 piece grill and a liftup bonnet and the radiator cap was internal..

#13 cab had the headlights in the bodywork and a forward slopeing windscreen.

hope this helps

Default Cab types

Cab 11 C8

And here's a large image of a Cab 11 F15A (too big for here)

This is a Ford F8 Cab 12 with the "alligator" style hood or bonnet.

This is an Australian production C15A with canvas "Sunshine" roof.

The reverse sloping windscreen was aimed at reducing visibility to aircraft, as well as stopping snow and slush piling up (not something we need to worry too much about in Australia).

Default Open cabs

The cabs, thanks to Clive's information, are:

1 = MILITARY PATTERN CAB
2 = CONVENTIONAL OR MODIFIED CONVENTIONAL CAB
3 = CAB-OVER-ENGINE [FORWARD CONTROL IN UK PARLANCE]
4 = HALF OR OPEN CAB

Then the next digit is the 'mark' or 'history':

11 = MILITARY PATTERN CAB, THUMBSCREW OPENING HOOD BASED ON THE GUY QUAD ANT TO BRITISH W.O. SPEC 36
12 = M.P.C. WITH ALLIGATOR HOOD
13 = M.P.C. WITH REVERSE-SLOPE SCREEN, 30 DEGREES OPENING AT FIRST THEN OCTOBER 1942 [?] 90 DEGREES

41 = IN THEORY OPEN VERSION OF THE 11 CAB..were there any?
42 = OPEN VERSION OF THE 12 CAB WITH MONSANTO SCREENS AS USED IN THE 2-PDR ANTI-TANK PORTEES
43 = OPEN VERSION OF THE 13 CAB AS USED IN THE C60L 6-PDR ANTI-TANK PORTEES
43S = SPECIAL OPEN CAB AS USED IN THE F30B BOFORS FORS MODEL C39QB
